According to a recent survey held by OAAA, the average person will spend at least 15 hours a week in their car. With this figure being extremely higher than the mere awake hours spent at home, its no wonder the car has become a home away – near, and on the way to – home. Though it may be easy to find almost anything imaginable to organize a home, less is to be said for the car. Although most vehicles do come equipped with cup holders and storage compartments, there are simple things that can be done to make your “mini home” organized.
1. UTILIZE THE SPACE
If you car has a small compartment for storage, use it! A properly equipped glove box should carry a map, pen or pencil, notepad, insurance/registration information, and many other small things. Keeping essential items close, such as in the glove box, is important for emergencies. Some cars have storage in the arm rest that can hold CDs, coins, and anything else small enough. One rule of thumb is to be able to open the compartment without anything spilling out and to be able to see everything that is inside. Cup holders are also a standard in cars. Trunk space, folding under seat compartments and side doors also offer additional storage.
2.THROW AWAY TRASH
This should really be a given! Empty bottles, candy wrappers and papers really clutter space and should be thrown away. You can keep a grocery bag in the car and drape it over the back seat to serve as the “trash bag” and keep your trash in there. When you stop, throw it away. Empty bottles can be very dangerous because they can roll under the foot pedals and get stuck.
3.LOOK FOR PRODUCTS
There are a lot of car organization products available on the market today.
Trash bags and toy bags and be draped over the front seats to create easy storage of toys, books, and other belongings.
CD visor organizers hang in the visor to create space for easy access to your favorite CDs.
A trunk organizers are made to fit any trunk and separates spaces for great organization.
A great website for car organizers is www.cargogear.com.
Keeping a car organized is fairly easy if you remember to utilize space, throw away trash, and find great products to help.
Happy Driving!
