Banking Fees

Yeah, you're a big diva hittin' up Kitson (TJMaxx). A swippy swipe here and a swipe swipe there, you have money in the bank so you aren't worried about spending money you don't have. Banks are billionaires so if you happen to go a 3 measly cents over big deal, right? WRONG!
Friend, banks are BANKIN' on this insufficient funds craze. Even a couple of cents overdrawn can land you anwhere from $30 to $100 in fees! THIS IS INSANE!! I know Im, -ahem-I mean my friend, is not the only one suffering from this. Banking and credit card fees are now at an ALL TIME HIGH and banks, well they're laughing all the way to the, er, bank. There are some things you can do to avoid this monstocity.

1. KNOW HOW MUCH MONEY YOU HAVE
This is really simple. Check your account balances frequently. Chase Bank has mobile banking where you can text your account to check the balances. If you know how much money you have in the first place, you will be less likely to over spend.

2. BUDGET YOUR MONEY
Yes! The phenomenon that is budgeting. It really doesn't take a rocket scientist. Analyze your spending trends. Food, entertainment, shopping, saving, etc. and put money into those designated accounts and only spend it on those particular items. There are many free resources to help you budget your money like http://www.mint.com/ and http://www.geezeo.com/.

3.SET UP ALERTS
Most banks that have online banking have a way for you to set up alerts to be delivered to your email or phone when your account reaches a certain balance, gets a deposit,or is overdrawn.

4.SET UP OVERDRAFT PROTECTION
If you have a savings account, you can link it to your checking account so when and if it becomes overdrawn the funds will be taken from the savings account. Talk to a banker today!

5.SAVE
In order for number 4 to work properly, this is a must! Throw 20 bucks in there whenever you get paid. If you are usually only a couple of bucks overdrawn, this works out great. Plus, you get interest..free money! HELLO!!

Be smart and don't spend what you don't have!!
